In a significant acquisition for horror fans, Trinity has snagged global rights to Rumpelstiltskin, an eerie folk-horror adaptation from Paranoid Android Films that promises to plunge audiences into the dark underbelly of the Brothers Grimm universe.
This reinvention of one of folklore’s most terrifying villains merges two of horror’s most electrifying trends - warped fairytales and A24-style folk horror - creating a tale as unsettling as it is visually haunting.
Directed and written by Andy Edwards and joined by co-producer Rebecca J. Matthews (The Monster Beneath Us), the film dives deeper into the distorted essence of Rumpelstiltskin, making him more nightmarish than ever.
"Fairy-tale horror films are obviously big at the moment - I even directed one myself recently (Cinderella's Revenge),” says Edwards. “But I wanted to do something a little different with this one, and instead of taking a cute character and making them evil, I took a character that was pretty twisted already, to create a medieval folk-horror direct from the nightmare world of the Brothers Grimm. Rumpelstiltskin was always a character that creeped me out as a child, and he creeped me out when reading the story to my own kid - now he's coming to creep everyone out!"
Expect Rumpelstiltskin to spin its way into theatres and minds, as Trinity prepares to introduce this chilling tale to a global audience at AFM in November.
